Nie Jianguo (Aug.1958-) is a native of Hengyang City in Hunan Province, an expert in structural engineering, academician of CAE, and professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, dean of the Institute of Future Towns and Infrastructure, director of the Academic Committee, and vice-chairman of the Association for Science and Technology of Tsinghua University. Academically, he serves as the chief editor of Journal of Building Structures, vice-chairman of China Civil Engineering Society, chairman of the Special Committee on Engineering Technology for Over-limit High-rise Buildings of MOHURD, convener of the appraisal groups of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, vice-chairman of China Steel Construction Society, director of the Expert Committee of China Steel Construction Society, vice-chairman of the Building Structure Branch of the Architectural Society of China, vice-chairman of the Bridge and Structure Branch of China Highway and Transportation Society, and vice-chairman of the Construction Branch of the Architectural Society of China. He has been engaged in the research of steel-concrete composite structure for a long time. His achievements have been widely used in the fields of building structures, bridge structures, special structures, underground structures, etc., generating remarkable technical, economic and social benefits. He has published two academic monographs and three textbooks as well as more than 150 papers in the global top academic journals of structural engineering, and has been granted more than 30 invention patents. He has won a second prize of National Award for Progress in Science and Technology as a first accomplisher, and he was the No.1 to win the first prize of the National Award for Technological Invention and the National Award for Progress in Science and Technology (Innovative Team) as a first accomplisher in China’s engineering construction field. Additionally, he has won such honors as the First Outstanding Talent Award of China Steel Structure Association, the Outstanding Contribution Award of the Steel-concrete Composite Structure Branch of China Steel Structure Association, National Excellent Post-doctors, National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers, Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation’s Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, National Model Teachers, National Advanced Workers, and National Innovation Award.
