With the advancement of the new urbanization construction in China, the steel-concrete composite structure that conforms to the direction of industrialized construction has been widely used in densely populated urban areas and high-intensity seismic fortification areas abroad due to its advantages of high bending stiffness, high load-bearing capacity, good ductility, and convenient construction. Furthermore, on October 24, 2021, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the "Opinions on Fully and Accurately Implementing the New Development Concept and Doing a Good Job in Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality", aiming to achieve the "dual carbon" strategic goal in accordance with the requirements of sustainable economic and social development. For researchers engaged in basic research on engineering structure application, it is an effective low-carbon measure to improve performance through technological innovation while reducing structural material consumption while ensuring structural safety.
Against the backdrop of the fifth-generation "China Seismic Ground Motion Parameter Zoning Map" (GB 18306-2015) in China, which clearly defines the methods of determining seismic motion parameters for four levels of actions: basic, frequent, rare and extremely rare, and increases the seismic fortification standards for engineering structures, the seismic resistance of the steel-concrete composite structure has further potential to be excavated to improve toughness, enhance the safety of important engineering structures during strong earthquakes or save structural material when maintaining the same seismic performance. Chinese scholars have conducted fruitful research in the field of seismic resistance of composite structures by conducting model experiments, theoretical studies, and key technology research, and a series of research results have been successfully applied in major building and bridge engineering projects in China.
In order to fully showcase the latest research results in the field of seismic resistance of composite structures in China, sort out key issues and frontier research directions, and promote theoretical and technological innovation, the editorial department of the magazine "Steel Structure (Chinese and English)" of Industrial Architecture Journal Co., Ltd. has decided to organize and publish a special issue entitled "New Advances in Research on Seismic Performance and Toughness Enhancement of Composite Structures" (regular). Experts and scholars are welcome to contribute!
